Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award

Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar (SSB) Prize for Science and Technology is given to Indian scientists for their outstanding work in Science and Technology. It is a yearly award given by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) to the citizens of India engaged in research in any field of science and technology up to the age of 45 years. Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) and Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) working in India are also eligible.

While we are publishing this article on Women’s day it is sad to see that out of 12 coveted scientists there is only one woman who is given this award. In fact in its history of more than 60 years only 17 women are awarded the SSB prize.
